Adopting a unique holistic ecosystem approach, the agribusiness hub model combines talent, technology, expertise and capital, allowing for enterprise development and enhancing a variety of new skills to unlock decent employment opportunities for young people.
The hubs are premised on the idea that training alone cannot unlock the entire employment potential for young people. To be truly successful in mediating employment opportunities all actors need to be working within an enabling environment. The hubs actively identify private entities and individuals, public sector actors and members of civil society. These partnerships are fostered around three works streams within commodity value chains:
market-driven production
post- harvest management
access to goods and services
Together, these players and their roles constitute the agribusiness hub ecosystem. To ensure youth-owned enterprises are able to tap into markets, participating young people receive support both during and after their time with the hubs in registering their businesses, complying with social security requirements, unions and workers’ freedom of association.
The agribusiness hubs integrated and holistic model is organized into three distinct phases:
Within the hubs, young women and men are offered an opportunity to sharpen their skillsets along two pathways: wage employment and self-employment
